Navigating the World of Safety Footwear: Understanding IS 15298 Standards

In the fast-paced world of safety footwear, understanding the rules and standards can often be a complex task. At Fuel, we believe it's our responsibility to not only adhere to these regulations but also to educate our team and customers about them. Let's dive into the IS 15298 shoe standards to shed some light on this crucial aspect of safety footwear.

IS 15298 Part -1, 2, 3 & 4 Specification and Method

1. IS: 15298:2019 (Part1) / EN ISO 20344 – Test Method for All Types of Footwear

This standard defines the test method for all types of shoes, including safety, protective, and occupational footwear. It lays the foundation for evaluating various aspects of these shoes to ensure they meet safety and quality requirements.

2. IS: 15298:2019 (Part2) / EN ISO 20345 – Safety Footwear

Safety footwear, as per this standard, is equipped with toe caps designed to provide protection against impact. These shoes must withstand an energy level of at least 200 J and resist compression when tested at a compression load of at least 15kN.

3. IS: 15298:2019 (Part3) / EN ISO 20346 – Protective Footwear

Protective footwear, covered by this standard, is also fitted with toe caps to protect against impact. However, the required energy level for impact protection is slightly lower, at a minimum of 100 J. These shoes should also resist compression when tested at a load of at least 10kN.

4. IS: 15298:2019 (Part4) / EN ISO 20347 – Occupational Footwear

Occupational footwear, unlike safety and protective footwear, doesn't include toe caps designed for protection against impact force and compression load. These shoes are designed for workplaces and activities where specific hazards, such as impact and compression, to feet and toes were not identified during the risk assessments.
